This is a revision of another article I wrote I wrote a while back.

Windows xp keeps logging me out as soon as click on my user to logon

A client of mine had this problem on his computer and although with some nifty handy work i managed to get the users file back onto the computer the virus which was causing the problem was much more difficult to attempt to remove.

This is what i would suggest doing if its possible for you to do i also believe this to be the best solution to your problem:

  1. Remove the problematic hard drive from the computer.
  2. Mount the hard drive inside another computer and use it as a slave drive.
  3. Then what youll need to do is simply hunt down the userinit.exe file from your good installation of windows copy it and paste it into your bad copy of windows on your other drive which can be achieved by very simply right click and copying and then right click paste into the bad installation.
  4. You can do this by locating your old hard drive using my computer then going to WINDOWS -> SYSTEM32
  5. The same can be applied for hunting down the file on both drives.
  6. Once you have copied the file over remove the hard drive and re-install it back into your other case.
  7. You should now be able to login as normal.
  8. If the problems persist, ie signs of virus’s and or other areas of the windows installation not working, id suggest saving all of your wanted data on an external hard drive.
  9. The formatting the hard drive.
  10. And Re-installing windows or trying windows repair option.
  11. If you do not have your windows disc, you should be able to obtain it by asking your laptop or computer manufacturer/supplier for your copy.

This will eradicate fully the problem, however you could try missng steps 9,10 and 11 and simply try and find some very good virus software and run some extensive scans etc and see how you go.
